Katonah Yoga: Mondays 19.30-20.45 and Wednesdays 18.00-19.15
Yuma began her yoga journey many years ago and started teaching at The Looking Glass Basel in 2020, learning even more techniques by bringing her experiences into the classroom. It was through Kristen and The Looking Glass that Yuma first came into contact with Katonah Yoga® in 2019. Katonah Yoga®, with it's profound metaphors, principles and wisdom, gives her the opportunity to express what she perceives in her own yoga practice. For her, Katonah Yoga® is a powerful, mystical, poetic and magical practice that fascinates and moves her deeply. She completed Kristen's 250-hour yoga teacher training in 2020 and has since completed over 500 hours of Katonah Yoga® training around the world. She has studied and continues to study with Kristen Watson Geering, Dages Juvelier Keates, Abbie Galvin and the teachers at The Studio in NY, Mary Dana Abbott, Cassie Ray, Elisa Kuuttila, Lisa Fraipont and of course Nevine Michaan, the founder of Katonah Yoga®. In 2024 she completed the Katonah Yoga® Mentorship at the Katonah Yoga® Centre.
She has a thoughtful, open-hearted and playful way of sharing her insights. In her classes you will work with many props such as blocks, straps, blankets, chairs and poles. You should not expect a 75' flow class where you can switch off your thoughts, but space for open dialogue and imagination. Her classes are meant to be both a fertile ground for inner work and an opportunity for dialogue through movement to work on something together. The aim of each class is to give you the opportunity to understand yourself in a deeper way. Uncovering patterns and changing habits by learning new methods and using new tools allows you to move playfully and with curiosity. Along with techniques, this takes time and repetition, so you will develop stamina by staying in the asanas longer and flowing less.
The framework of this practice is defined and refined through maps of time and personal space. Incorporating themes of using asana as origami, manipulating form for function and developing a sense of personal scale.
Her own practice is about gathering information and sorting out patterns in body and mind. Always from a different angle – each time with a new experience. In addition to teaching yoga, Yuma works as a freelance landscape architect. Like herself, she has a multifaceted approach to teaching. She also offers breathwork classes, private 1:1 and In-Class-Private (ICP). If you're interested, please contact her: yuma.fischer@bluewin.ch
